Quintessence ... The Story

"Quintessence…The Musical," is about a day in the life of three teenage girls. A very special day-a day which will change their lives, and will warm your heart, forever.

The Play "Opens”, at the State of Michigan’s Quartet Competition for full term Scholarships to the Interlochen Arts Academy, located near Traverse City, Michigan. The last quartet of the day is being introduced Maiah, Carrie, Consuelo, and Melvin. Upon completion of their fantastic performance, they win the competition! To celebrate, the girls decide to meet at their ‘Secret Place’ (a spot at a neighborhood Park). While there, they toast to winning the Scholarships, and begin to reminisce. As they talk, Carrie starts to think about some of her problems and tribulations at home, and becomes depressed. The depression spreads like wildfire to Consuelo and Maiah. To the point all three are "sitting on a stump crying their eyes out.” GOOD GRIEF!

Fortunately, Maiah remembers her mother saying, "she prays and meditates when she gets depressed.” So the three begin to pray and meditate. While concentrating, sitting perfectly still and quiet…they fall asleep. While sleeping, they have a "Dream”. A dream so real…Somehow, they are thrust to another level.

They have reached "Quintessence (Kwin-tes-sns). 2) ”the fifth element, "above” Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. The ethereal. This is where our play takes place. And where Their story, is told. It is here, where the three girls meet nine unforgettable characters. All of them unique, and in their own way prolific. In that they represent the very essence of life, itself! The girls meet Flame (The Soul), and six manifestations of the Soul. They also meet "Dee Body”, and "The spirit”. Each of these characters are meaningful, stimulating. And each of them are Quintessence. 1) "anything in its purest and most concentrated form”. The conversations between them and the three girls are both thought provoking, and uplifting. While at the same time being as everyday as a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
